Wayville, your Commoonity Program is here!

At the heart of Groovin the Moo’s (GTM) festival philosophy is the desire to showcase and support communities and regions that are often those less travelled. GTM’s Community Program has been developing organically each year and we’re thrilled to announce what we’ve got in store for Wayville in 2019.

Adelaide Hills Ukulele Group

The Adelaide Hills Ukulele Group are excited to come back and cover tunes from GTM’s 2019 line up but this time they’re going to do it in style and comfort. The ‘Kings of Comfort’ roving AHUG Group will be dressed in all the comfort you would find at the finest GTM Motel. Catch them serenading in bathrobes and bedding fit for a king.

DJ Workshop @ Lion Oxford

Courtney Duka from Five Four Entertainment will be bringing together a bunch of other industry-legends to run a one day workshop for emerging DJ’s. They will be invited to spend time with a DJ to cover to basics of mixing, programs to get started, and then following on with information on branding and approaching media. *Note that this is female focused but the workshop is open to all genders.

Graffin the Moo

Students from Mount Barker High School will be creating masterpieces on the scrim fence lines under the guidance of Coldkrush Gallery. Two days before show day, the group will descend onto the festival site to spray paint their designs onto the scrim adding that extra pop of colour! They will also be participating in making personalised hotel signs for every artist on our GTM line up.

Ink Pot Arts

This year the Ink Pot Arts Stilt Walking crew will be celebrating some of the epic tourist attractions in regional parts of SA. These big characters will be brought to life offering some one of a kind photo opportunities – think The Big Olive, The Big Lobster and The Big Pelican.

LGBTQI+ Safe Space

Queer Amnesty International, Bfriend and Flinders Uni Queer Society are combining forces to create Pridestop; the best place to stock up and refuel on all things fabulous. Stop in for some knitting, catch a drag performance and who knows what else! There’ll be a stack of fantastic fun planned all day and night.

Life Without Barriers / Postcards of Welcome

When people travel, often they send postcards back home to let loved ones know they are thinking of them. Living Arts are working with 20 young people of diverse backgrounds from Life Without Barriers. These young people may be under guardianship of the minister, come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and/or live with a disability. Through a four hour workshop program participants will be invited to share what helps them feel welcome and how they wish others to feel welcome. They will create gigantic postcards that will greet patrons on arrival at the front gate. The project will share the voices of young people who are often identified as ‘other’.

Powder Pen

Returning in 2019, GTM’s Powder Pen will keep you looking festival fresh! For a small donation, you can get a quick hair and make-up “zjoosh” thanks to Chilli Hair. A portion of proceeds from the Powder Pen will go back to their charity of choice, headspace who is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation for 12-25 year olds.

Work Experience

Our work experience groups for Wayville include TAFE SA, Music SA, Mount Barker High School and Adelaide Hills VOC who will gain experience in a range of areas including Artist Liaison, Publicity, Production and festival bump in and bump out.
