Are you a young creative looking to get more hands-on experience in live music? GTM is very happy to once…
Bunbury, your Commoonity Program is here!
At the heart of Groovin the Moo’s (GTM) festival philosophy is the desire to showcase and support communities and regions that are often those less travelled. GTM’s Community Program has been developing organically each year and we’re thrilled to announce what we’ve got in store for Bunbury in 2019.
GTM x HEAPS GAY
The legends at HEAPS GAY started a few years ago as a series of parties for LGBTQI+ kids and their friends and has since become a regular party starter in the Sydney scene for anyone who wants to have fun and support good causes. They’ll bring the Milk Bar back to Bunbury again to offer some incredibly good vibes and party times, with Heaps Gay DJ’s and local favourites spinning the tunes.
GTM x Ugly DJ. Co x MPAC DJ Workshops
Six aspiring DJ’s will be given the opportunity to play in front of thousands thanks to a collaboration between local movers and shakers LXF Community and the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. The free workshop series aims to provide a platform for a diverse mix of young musicians to go from zero to hero across five intensive sessions.
Local School Projects
Local Bunbury primary schools will be working on a series of art projects for the Udder Mayhem bar. Drawing inspiration from the Hotel/Motel theme they will be decorating over 200 keys that will be strung up to make a stunning installation in the Udder Mayhem bar.
Local Business Involvement
Bunbury Roller Derby
These legends will be back to lend their skills to run the Cloakroom.
Lamp Inc / Trailer Park Party
Lamp Inc are a not for profit, mental health support service; supporting individuals, families and carers, living in the community with mental illness. Lamp provides a large range of specialised programs, tailored to enhance an individuals independence, freedom of choice and quality of life. Lamp Inc’s program Room 226 is an early intervention service for young people at risk of developing mental illness. Young people attend the evening drop in centre, engaging in group activities, developing social skills and healthy relationships. They will be running a Trailer Park Party out of their bus full of free activities such as, paint your mate with their selection of body paints (or donate for a professional job!), bongo drum sessions, totem tennis, ten pin bowling and more!
Milligan exist to reduce the impact of social isolation by activating the strength of the community through the power of shared experiences. GTM is super excited to partner with them in 2019 where they will be hosting a pop up dress up box and jacket stall. If you are feeling chilly, head over to them to purchase a vintage jacket, with all the proceeds going back into the work they do in the community. While you are there, take a photo with your friends with one of the many fruity props they will have on offer!
The talented crew from Sweeney Todd will be running with a “retro Motel chic” theme in the Powder Pen. Pop in to pop some rollers in your hair, dress up in some heels and fluffy props, Pink Poodle style! A portion of proceeds from the Powder Pen will go back to their charity of choice, Youth Focus, who support young people with mental health issues.
Newton Moore Girls Academy
Girls Academy is a Western Australian initiative to provide assistance and mentoring throughout high school for female indigenous students. GTM has worked with the Girls Academy in Bunbury for many years and we are thrilled to start expanding the partnership into NSW. A selection of Year 10 students will be participating in the dance and language workshops and Welcome to Country.
Bunbury Catholic College
Bunbury Catholic College provides an annual journey for a handful of our music students from the college to the GTM site to undertake work experience. It’s a major highlight for these students as they get involved with setting up the back stage area as well as other aesthetic tasks around the site – and we love having them as part of the team!
