K.Flay is an American singer songwriter based in LA, curating an empowering and inspired mix of hip-hop, indie and electronic music. Inspired by the likes of M.I.A, Missy Elliot and frustrated by the state of mainstream rap, she started making music for fun and “fell into music very haphazardly” while studying Psychology and Sociology at Stanford University. “I was in an argument with someone and was challenged to make a song, which was really my entry point into music.” From there she started producing and playing house parties on campus as a release from academic life.

She released her first self-titled EP in 2010, after a few years experimenting with initial mix tape releases ”Suburban Rap Queen” and “Mashed Potatoes”. She “liked that music was a window into a world with a lot of unpredictability and chaos” and upon graduating, moved to San Francisco and released what she claimed to be a “turning point” in her career I Stopped Caring In ‘96. K. Flay’s genre defying style enabled her to tour alongside artists as diverse as Snoop Dogg, Passion Pit and Icona Pop.

In 2014, K.Flay launched her own label for the release of her full-length debut Life As A Dog. Following the success of the album, she toured Europe and America extensively with headline shows and support slots with artists such as AWOLNATION and Theophilus London. After appearing on Golden Features’ track “Telescope” in 2015, she then signed with Night Street Records, a part of Interscope Records run by Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds, who released her latest EP Crush Me.

With her latest tune “Blood In The Cut” under her belt, K.Flay is about to take Australia by storm as she hits our shores in 2017.

With just over three months until genre defying hip-hop legend K.Flay hits Australian shores for GTM 2017, she’s unveiled a dark new track “Black Wave”.

K.Flay describes the origins of Black Wave as facing something immense and menacing and choosing not to cower, but to rise up.” It’s an up beat, fire-fuelled banger from the L.A. based artist.

Alongside her latest track, she’s announced her second full-length album Every Where is Some Where to be released on April 7th. In addition, she gives us an insight into the album’s title; in writing this album, I thought a lot about the places that shape us, and how, in turn, we shape those places in our minds.” You can read K.Flay’s full statement here.
